White Castle and NEST Fragrances Announce the Return of the Original Slider-Scented Candle
Popular Burger-and-Onion-Scented Candle Benefits Autism Education Fund-Raising Television Concert and Satisfies Hungry Holiday Gift-Givers
White Castle, America’s first fast-food hamburger chain, and NEST Fragrances, a specialized home fragrance company, have once again joined forces to serve up another round of The Original Slider®-Scented Candle to benefit an autism fund-raising television concert and satisfy the holiday gift-giving needs of White Castle lovers everywhere.
Packaged in a ceramic holder that reproduces the signature cardboard sleeve of the White Castle hamburger packaging, the steam-grilled-burger-on-a-bed-of-onions-scented candles made their debut in May during White Castle’s 18th annual celebration of National Hamburger Month. All 10,000 candles sold out in less than 48 hours and the net proceeds were donated to Autism Speaks.
“When we first introduced The Original Slider®-Scented Candle in our stores and online last May, we had no idea it would become the national phenomenon it did,” said Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president of corporate relations. “Our original goal was to do something special for our loyal Cravers during National Hamburger Month while exploring a fun, new way to support a great cause. We’re looking forward to keeping the momentum going and doing more of the same with this fresh batch of Slider®-Scented Candles.”
On October 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT during the airing of “Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education” on COMEDY CENTRAL, viewers who call in to a celebrity operated phone bank and make a donation of $100 or more to the program will receive a complimentary Original Slider®-Scented Candle. “Night of Too Many Stars,” featuring host Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Jimmy Fallon, Lewis Black, Ricky Gervais and Chris Rock, among many others, will benefit a variety of autism education and family service programs across the country, in support of the increasing number of individuals affected by autism who so desperately need quality services. Since 2005, the event has raised close to seven million dollars.
“When I met Bill and Marci Ingram, the owners of White Castle, we laughed about producing a candle that smells like a Slider®,” said Laura Slatkin, NEST Fragrances founder and CEO. “But, the more we talked about it, the more I thought to myself, ‘What could be better than a candle that smells like a White Castle slider? It’s what we all crave, most of all me!’ I am thrilled it has been so well-received by White Castle lovers everywhere – I think it is definitely the next best thing!”
Those who wish to make a donation of $100 or more to “Night of Too Many Stars” now through October 20 will also receive a complimentary White Castle Original Slider®-Scented Candle (while supplies last). Click here to make an online donation. Donations can also be made by check payable to “New York Center for Autism” and mailed to the New York Center for Autism, 601 West 26 Street, No. 1500, New York, NY 10001. Sometime following the airing of “Night of Too Many Stars” on October 21 on COMEDY CENTRAL, White Castle will begin selling the Original Slider®-Scented candles to the public in time for the holiday gift-giving season (while supplies last).
